PEEK features: high temperature fluidity, high decomposition temperature.

PEEK is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic polymer with a melting point of about 343 degrees Celsius. The thermal stability of PEEK is that it is difficult to detect the volatiles of PEEK decomposition when heated to 427 degrees Celsius. The decomposition temperatures of PEEK and CFR-PEEK composites measured by FT-IR are between 400 and 480 degrees Celsius. There is no significant difference in the thermal decomposition of PEEK and CFR-PEEK composites. PEEK holds at 400 degrees Celsius for half an hour, weightlessness is less than 1%. It holds at 360 degrees Celsius for one hour without obvious degradation. The long-term stable temperature is at 340 degrees Celsius (melting point or so) and the continuous working temperature is 160 degrees Celsius.

General thermoplastic processing methods are suitable for PEEK materials, including injection molding, extrusion, die pressing, spraying and so on.

The general process of PEEK injection moulding is as follows:

1. Drying: Particle polymers generally absorb 0.5% w/w of atmospheric moisture. In order to obtain the best effect, drying should be carried out until the moisture is less than 0.02% w/w. The material can be placed in an air circulating furnace and dried for at least 3 hours at 150 ~C or 2 hours at 160 ~C. If it is dried in a drying box, the thickness of the raw material in the tray is not the same.

It can exceed 25 mm. And prevent pollution.

2. Recycling: Remains can be recycled and injected into pure materials. It is suggested that recycled materials without fillers should not exceed 30% of the total weight, and recycled mixtures with fillers should not exceed 10% of the total weight.

3. Thermal stability: If the equipment shuts down during the melting process and the residence time of the polymer is not more than 1 hour, there is no obvious degradation of the material at 360 C. However, if the shutdown time exceeds 1 hour, the barrel temperature should be lowered to 340 C. At this temperature, the material can be kept stable for several hours continuously, and the barrel temperature should be raised when processing continues. If the shutdown time exceeds 3 hours, the barrel should be cleaned. Some materials, such as polyethersulfone or polyetherimide, which can maintain stable performance at 380 C, can also be cleaned with polyethylene with low MFI.

4. Injection machine: The melting point of polymer is 343 C, which is suitable for the traditional machine which can keep the melt temperature between 360 and 400 C.

5. Bucket capacity: Due to the high processing temperature of PEEK polymer, the residence time of the material must be as short as possible. The ideal barrel capacity is 2-5 times the total injection weight.

6. Nozzle and Blocking System: The melting point of polymer is very high. If the temperature drops below 343 C, the melt will solidify quickly. Therefore, it is necessary to install a heater large enough at the nozzle to prevent cooling from producing "injection cold material".

8. Barrel temperature: the unreinforced grade is 360-380 C and the reinforced grade is 380-400 C.

9. Temperature of the die: The surface temperature of the die is 175-205 C.

10. Injection pressure: the general injection pressure is 70-140 MPa.

11. Injection speed: medium to high speed.

12. Back pressure: It is recommended that the backpressure be set to 0-1.0 MPa (0-10 kgf/cm2).

13. Screw speed: generally, the speed of screw is 50-100 rpm. For strengthening grade, it is recommended to use lower screw speed.

14. Molding shrinkage: Polymers of different grades have different shrinkage rates. The unfilled grade is about 1.2-2.4%, and the filling grade is 0.1-1.1%.

Secondary processing: It can be used for bonding, tapping, pressing, metal inserts, cutting and surface metallization.
